Lady Stang Golf in Fifth Place

Behind a top-10 start from Gabby Singh, the Western New Mexico University women's golf team sits in fifth after the opening round of the RMAC North Invitational at the Fox Hill CC Monday.

WNMU opened with a 327, just a shot back of newcomer Westminster (Utah) for fourth and three back of Colorado Christian for third. Colorado Mesa holds a six-stroke lead with an opening 316. Colorado Mesa's Naomi Yamada and Colorado Christian's Sydney Gillespie are tied for the individual lead with a pair of 76's.

Singh wasn't far behind them as she fired an 80 and is currently in a tie for eighth. She utilized four birdies during her round, tied for tops after the first round. Cheyenne Molina and Adrianna Grijalva are both tied for 19th as they opened with 82's. Bobbi Pierson is just a stroke bhind them as she began with an 83 and is tied for 24th. Rounding out the golfers for the Lady Mustangs, Shelby Turner is tied for 36th with an 85.

The Lady Mustangs took advantage of solid birdie play, sinking eight as a team to tie for the lead. They tied for third in par-three scoring (3.20) and fourth in par-four scoring (4.82).

WNMU will conclude the RMAC North Invitational on Tuesday morning.
