...And the Hammer Came Down

The hammer has really come down on hunger in Silver City this past summer!

We have had two large farmers market distributions and two Senior citizen food distributions so far with more to come.

These efforts really do require a lot of manpower and hard work, but do make a huge dent in the fight against hunger in our area.

Each semi-truckload of food came in at anywhere from 10-14,000 pounds of food and we’ve been able to feed around 5,000 hungry individuals to date.

It’s even better when we can take the food in these mobile food pantries to where they are needed the most like our 6th Street School or Hurley elementary school distributions.

And having that much quality fresh produce to hand out has been a blessing and being able to serve the senior demographic has helped a lot of needy families.

A huge thanks to all of the volunteers who have helped, Roadrunner Food Bank for delivering the food and to stores like Walmart and a few others for their donations.

Everyone truly deserves a pat on the back for this effort and we hope we can continue this much needed service in the future!

The Senior Citizen Food Pantry happens the 3rd Wednesday of every month at the Knight’s of Columbus Hall at 1602 N. Swan St between 1:30-3 pm. Please bring your own bags and help to carry the food and anyone who is 55 years of age or older and is a Grant County resident in need of food is eligible to attend.
