George "Pete" Allan, 85, of Silver City, NM, passed away Friday January 15, 2016 at his home.
Pete was born March 4, 1930 in Alamogordo, NM to James S. and Louise Allan.
He grew up in Morenci, AZ where he graduated from high school in 1948. In 1950, he moved to Tyrone, NM where he met his wife, Betty Jean Holloway. Pete worked for Phelps Dodge Mining until his retirement in 1982 after 33 years of service. Following his retirement, he worked as a machinist at Metal Tech in downtown Silver City. He then opened his own business, "Pete Allan Drivelines", where he worked alongside his great friend, Bill Moore, at Mountain Auto Repair. Pete worked at his business until his death. Pete was an outdoorsman, gun enthusiast and a life-long member of the NRA.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Betty Allan, his faithful sidekick Cocoa, his son, Jim Allan and wife Pam, four grandchildren, Tami Legarda and husband Rudy, Tanya Renteria and husband Troy, Heather Holzinger and husband Aaron and Jennifer Kirkpatrick. Pete has six great-grandchildren, Christopher Allan, Brooklyn Renteria, Cameron Holzinger, Kalob Holzinger, Jacob Holzinger and Denise Kirkpatrick. He is also survived by his long-time friend and adopted son, Bill Moore and wife Val. Pete is also survived by his brother-in-law Dexter Holloway and companion Sandy, sister-in-law Lenora Braley and husband Claude, and sister-in-law Ella Mae Jensen. He is survived by many nieces and nephews as well.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother James W. Allan, his son, Steve W. Allan and his grandson, James R. Allan.
A Memorial Service will be held at Bright Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, January 23, 2016 at 11:00am
