The Los Lunas and Belen local associations of the National Education Association – New Mexico invite the concerned public to discuss current issues impacting public school student success at an Education Town Hall, 6:00 p.m. Thursday, December 10 at the Belen City Hall, 100 S. Main, Belen. Featured guest is State Senate Majority Leader Michael Sanchez, SD-29. The AFT-NM joins NEA-NM as co-sponsors.
"This Education Town Hall is a wonderful opportunity for parents, teachers and other educators and the community at large to discuss the critical issues impacting student success in our local public schools," says NEA-Belen President Tarla Hill. "Valencia County supports our local schools, yet teachers are under constant scrutiny from the PED. This is our opportunity to help Senate Majority Leader Sanchez, already a strong advocate for New Mexico's public schools to hear positive ideas for the road to greater success for our local students."
The December 10 Education Town Hall will focus on three broad areas: the over testing of our students and the current teacher evaluation system; the need to sufficiently fund our Public Schools; and how students benefit, too, when the legislature preserves association and labor rights. Education Town Hall participants are welcome to submit their own questions, too. A reception follows after the Town Hall.
Since 1993 Senate Majority Leader Sanchez has represented Senate District 29 which includes a significant area within Valencia County. Michael Sanchez was born in Belen, New Mexico, to Gil and Priscilla Sanchez. Sanchez received both his undergraduate degree and his J.D. from the University of New Mexico and practices law from his Los Lunas office.
