SILVER CITY, NM; Many volunteer work projects occur on public lands at various times. There are national volunteer events such as National Trails Day and National Public Lands Day, local service group clean-up projects as well as site stewardship opportunities.
On the Gila National Forest, a volunteer project to repair range fence will occur on the Glenwood Ranger District Nov. 7 and 8, 2015. The purpose of the project is to address multiple resource concerns involving wildlife habitat, riparian areas and fences in need of repair.
Another volunteer work project will occur on the Black Range Ranger District Nov. 5, 2015. This project will create riparian habitat for wild turkeys while providing water for other wildlife and livestock. Contact Emily Jensco, Wildlife Biologist, 575-894-6677 for information about the Black Range Ranger District project.
