#21 Ranked Mustang Golf Competes at Herb Wimberly

The No. 21 Western New Mexico University men’s golf team, facing an all Division I field, is currently in 14th after the first two rounds of the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate took place Monday at the New Mexico State Golf Course.

The Mustangs fired rounds of 304 and 300 to card a 604 and are just a shot behind Incarnate Word and four back of UT-Rio Grande Valley. University of Texas-El Paso leads the way with a 572, good for a six-stroke lead. Lamar’s Mans Berglund leads on the individual side with a 138 to take a three-shot lead over the field.

All-Americans Thomas Neve, Harry Wetton and Calum Hill are all leading the way for WNMU with 150’s and are tied for 46th. Neve came back from an opening round 76 to post the best second round on the team with a 74. Wetton and Hill each shot the same score in both rounds carding 75’s. All-RMAC Deryk “Buzz” Perales recovered from an 80 start to post a 76 for a 156 that has him in a tie for 75th. Jaime Waltmire was just a stroke back with rounds of 78 and 79 for a 157 to tie for 78th. Ben Skinner also competed as an individual and is currently in 82nd with a 165 (93-72), as his blistering second round 72 was the best of any Mustang on the day.

Wetton and Neve were near the top in terms of pars collecting 25 and 24, respectively. Waltmire had the most birdies with five. In par scoring, Wetton led the way in par-three with a 2.88 average, Neve paced the team in par-four scoring with a 4.23, while Hill led the way in par-five with a 4.67.

WNMU will conclude the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate on Tuesday morning beginning with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m
