Freshman Shelby Turner paced the Western New Mexico University women’s golf team Monday with a one-under 71 leading the Lady Mustangs to a 12th place start after the opening round of the WNMU Fall Intercollegiate at the Coldwater Golf Club.
WNMU fired a 303, just a stroke ahead of fellow RMAC school Regis. Cal Baptist leads the way with a 280, seven-strokes ahead of the field. Redlands’ Caroline Ordian leads on the individual side with a 64, giving her a four-shot lead on the field.
Turner came out ready as she carded five birdies on the day in posting her 71 which has her in a tie for 11th. Junior Bobbi Pierson was just a few shots back with a 74 as she had three birdies and is in a tie for 30th. Senior Cheyenne Molina collected a pair of birdies on her way to tallying a 78 to land in a tie for 69th. Junior Adrianna Grijalva opened with an 80 as she posted one birdie and is tied for 80th. Rounding out the golfers for WNMU was junior Gabby Singh as she recorded an 83 and is tied for 89th.
WNMU will wrap up the second and final round of the WNMU Fall Intercollegiate on Tuesday morning beginning at 8 a.m.
