Border Area Mental Health Services will present the next New Mexico Alcohol Server Training class in Silver City on Tuesday, Sept. 22, from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., in Suite 11 at 315 S. Hudson St., in Hudson Plaza.

All people working in positions where alcoholic beverages are served by the drink or in retail establishments offering package liquor sales must be certified by the state's Alcohol & Gaming Division every three years, according to Steve May, a BAMHS program specialist and certified alcohol server trainer.

"The class normally takes just over four hours followed by a 50-question multiple choice test," May explained. "We will cover areas such as responsible alcohol service, key alcohol laws, regulations, fines and penalties, how to prevent patrons from driving while intoxicated, including how to identify impairment and intoxication, facts about alcohol, preventing sales and service to minors, and Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD)."

Cost of the class is $35 and is payable with cashier's checks, money orders, or business checks, May said. No personal checks will be accepted. He encouraged people planning to attend the class to bring a light snack or a sack lunch.

For more information, contact May in Silver City at (575) 388-4497.
