The season's first American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division II Coaches' Poll was released Monday and Colorado Mines improved to sixth, while COlorado Mesa slotted in at No. 18 in the Top 25.
Colorado Mines garnered 944 total points, improving from its No. 8 ranking in the preseason poll. Colorado Mesa tallied 331 total points in the poll.
The Orediggers were the only RMAC school to go undefeated in the first weekend of action, boasting a 4-0 record. The week was highlighted by a thrilling come-from-behind victory over No. 20 Northwest Nazarene on Friday. Senior setter Danielle Johnson-Hazlewood, the RMAC Preseason Player of the Year, played a big role in the Orediggers' big weekend. She was named the RMAC Setter of the Week this week.
Colorado Mesa finished its first weekend of action 2-2. The Mavericks dropped the first two matches of their season, falling to UC San Diego and Point Loma, but they quickly regained their balance, defeating San Francisco State and Concordia (Calif.) to close things out.
