Western New Mexico University held its annual Bash for students just prior to the beginning of classes, which began Monday, Aug. 17.

The Bash is usually on Broadway, but due to the NM 90-Hudson Street Bridge rebuilding and the use of Broadway as a detour, this time it was called the Bash off Broadway or the Bash on Bullard, where it was held.

WNMU President Joseph Shepard gave his annual State of the University update and announced a sneak peek at the pool and fitness center this Friday, Aug. 22 at 3 p.m. The center is expected to open for students, faculty and staff of the university on Sept. 9 at no cost, because it is being paid for through student fees.

The recreation center and its amenities will be open to members of the community for $50 a month.

Vendors and music providers were on scene to welcome the students and community members who took advantage of a party.
